Hi All,
Have just joined the forum,at present we live in Prestwick, but are hoping to move to the La Marina area, just as soon as our house is sold. The family consists of myself and my husband Scott, our ten year old son Angus, the boys Jinky and Jasper :- see photo, and the cat Molly. Now that we have made the decision and put the house on the marketn we just want to make the move asap. Any advice on relocation in La Marina would be appreciated.
Also is there a good spanish school there for my son?
Thanks

Hola all !
Hello from Edinburgh, Scotland.
I am a mature new member, muy mature in fact, male, semi retired and a life long aficionado of travelling the highways & byways of Spain. First visit was early 50's when the General was top man. Things have changed somewhat since then.
We(my wife & I) visit CB at least twice a year and will continue to do so in spite of the adverse exchange rate now prevailing. Constantly learning new ways of second guessing the stealthy ploys of the budget carriers.
I am a retired science teacher, motor mechanic & been in business all my natural.
Love to heard from anyone interested.
Our sympathies to the expats who are also suffering financially, because of the extended effects of the current depression on exchange rates and property values.

Well thank you kindly!
Hi Richie,
thank you for taking the time to say welcome, that does matter to us as nowadays courtesy seems to be thinner on the ground than it used to be.

Jacqui & Spanish education
Hi Jacqui, my fellow novitiate !
Are you considering sending your son to a Spanish state school, or to an "international" school ?
I have spent a couple of very pleasant holidays in La Marina and found it to be well placed for travelling about the area by car.
love to be of service if I can

Hi ET,
Thanks for your interest, we are hoping to send our son who is aged 10 to a Spanish school,as I think total submersion into the language will be best, I have been told that at his age this would be advisable, but not if he were any older. Also my son is a clever boy, but not the most academic, whereas he is a very gifted natural golfer, and we want to give him every opportunity, and encouragement, without being pushy parents!!
All the best

Spanish school at La Marina
Good morning Jacqui,
thanks for your reply.
I forgot to ask whether you intend to live in the La Marina Urbanisation, or La Marina town down the road near the beach.
On our travels, we spotted a Spanish state school in the latter, think it was a secondary, don't know what ages it caters for.
I will do some research and get back to you if that's OK with you?
Total immersion seems to work very well with kids, who learn Spanish at hyperspeed. perhaps with too much vernacular, but hey that's what youngsters do.
Don't know how the golf courses are faring with the depression, apparently most other business sectors have felt the draught, just like in the UK.

good luck and I'd love to hear how you get on.
BTW. from our own experience, Gran Alacant has an excellent new primary school and a secondary is apparently on the slipway.
GA also has more shops , and a bus service !
