Judges and lawyers say that couples in the province by delaying the processing difficulties to cope with the costs.
Divorce is expensive, not only for attorneys' fees. Find another house or pay maintenance for children is a cost hard to bear, especially when revenues decline or is affected by unemployment. Experts say that the current crisis leads to the couples with problems to delay this process, leading to a drop in divorces and separations. This is reflected in recent data from the General Council of the Judiciary, which reveal that in 2008 the province of the courts handled 5608 marital breakdowns, 644 fewer than in 2007 and the lowest in the last five years.
"The decline comes from the crisis, as couples opt for an internal rupture without judicial for the cost," says the president of the Audiencia Provincial de Alicante, Vicente Magro. For the judge, the decrease in 2008 is remarkable and, although still divorced couples, the economic factor has slowed the cases and is forecast to continue falling."
Magro explains that there are marriages and unmarried couples who continue to reside in the same house, but with parallel lives due to the fact that one of them can't afford alternative housing. Warnings that this can cause problems when there is violence, and therefore recommends that in such cases the separation is made despite the cost.
